Twenty Nine....and a Day

I sit here, after celebrating my favorite “Holiday” and I’m not even bothered by the fact that I’m 29. TWENTY-NINE. This is the last year that I will be able to consider myself “a twenty-something,” and yet, I don’t think I could care less! Looking at my life, I feel pretty good about it. I own a home (by myself). I have a good job (thank goodness). I have a loving family, and amazing friends!! Life is pretty darn good! Still, I have my moments when life isn’t rainbows and butterflies, and realizing this, I thought I’d make a little list of what makes me feel “old” and what makes me feel “not-so-old.” Enjoy!!

Things that make me feel 29:

Hearing “Ma’am? Ma’am?” *I finally turn around when I realize that 16 year old is talking to ME.* “Can I help you find something?” (What, because I look so “old” now that I can’t find the bread aisle? Watch your back, punk.)

Seeing “Welcome Kindergartners Class of 2022” on the billboard outside of the school I live next to. (So, I’m going to be 42 when these kids graduate—from HIGH SCHOOL?)

Planning a night out on the town also involves clearing my schedule for the next day (Because the couch wants me to spend some quality time with it, of course!)

Training for a ½ Marathon. (“Why am I so sore that I can't move my extremities? Is that ‘normal?’”)

Being “responsible” by checking the Budget to see if I can squeeze in a little something extra for myself--like a MUCH needed brow waxing!

Varicose Veins, or as I like to call them: “Rainbow-Colored Legs.” (It just sounds more fun that way, right? )

Yelling at the neighbor kids: “Get off of my lawn!!” (I do it just to sound grown-up.)

Realizing that there’s a chance I could get arrested for the pranks I want to pull on people now. (Because a misdemeanor just doesn’t sound like a good idea at this point.)

Things that make me feel YOUNGER than 29:

Getting CARDED. At a Fish Fry. By a Knights of Columbus member wearing a funny hat.

Laughing at the funny hat. (WHAT?! Hats are funny.)

Adult Acne. (Do I really need to tell you that having pimples in your late twenties could be the reason you’re getting carded at Fish Fry’s? No, I don’t.)

Training for a ½ Marathon (Just for funsies, I might yell "bitches, move!" at the first people I pass that day. Granted, they'll be passing me later on, but it might be fun...)

Playing with my nephews and friends’ kids. (Nothing like looking for bugs and singing “I’m a little tea pot!” to make you feel like a kid again!)

Girl’s Nights!! Woo-hoo!!

Laughing whenever possible, and having fun…because age is just a number, right?!

*Special thanks to my parents, because without you & the things we won't mention here, I wouldn't be alive today.*

29, huh? Wait til 39. I'm freakin out. Freaking out hard, too. But your perspective is good. Frankly, I was happy to see my 20s go. Bad jobs, bad boyfriends, etc. 30's were a lot better. Big, new, great, life-changing in the best way possible things have happened during my 30s.

Congrats on training for your race. Keep us posted on it!
